Girl Crush (Pfeiffer 19)

0.00

IOWA TB, 36”, Midseason-Late.
Kent is a talented hybridizer and has lots of wonderful, quality irises on the way! From a distance, Girl Crush appears to be a red amoena. Up close, it is neither true red nor a true amoena, but is even more fascinating. Nicely ruffled burgundy falls are finely edged lavender with a fine crystalline gold rim. Palest lavender standards are shot gold near the
edges. The white eyelash pattern around the beards comes from its pollen parent, Salome’s Butterfly. Of the hundreds of irises introduced by Barry Blyth, Salome’s Butterfly remains an
all-time favorite. Unfortunately, it’s also a slow grower and a somewhat unreliable bloomer in my climate. Girl Crush corrects both of those problems and then some, being a strong grower and providing dependable bloom. The flowers are produced from 7-9 buds on sturdy
stalks with three well-spaced branches, giving it a long bloom season. Girl Crush is also proving to be a great parent, passing along its healthy growth traits in addition to giving seedlings with flowers in a wide variety of colors and patterns, including some of the greenest
flowered tall bearded irises I’ve ever seen. A tough perennial from the rugged climate of the midwest!
