ILLINOIS TB, Midseason-Late. 34". Standards medium to dark lobelia blue randomly overlaid with darker lobelia tears. Falls lighter dusty lobelia blue randomly patterned with darker lobelia tears. Underside of falls light lobelia blue which when scrolled upwards around the fall edges contrasts with the darker upper surface of the fall. The number of tears varies from season to season and location, or even absent in some years. Beard dark lobelia blue tipped yellow inside the flower. Three branches plus two or three spurs. Lower branches often have spurs. Up to 10-12 buds per stalk resulting in longer bloom season. The falls of the opening bud are scrolled/curled up making a unique presentation. Some scrolled ruffling on the falls is retained in the fully open bloom. Produces an average of six increase per rhizome, although some rhizomes have produced up to eleven increase in one season. Blackbird Tears won first place overall for floriferousness during the 2017 international competition in France, and fifth pace overall in the international competition.
